Laboratory-training center for modern automation systems and electric drives of the ABB company
In 2013, the ABB-Ukraine company, together with NTUU»KPI», opened a training laboratory at the AEMS-EP department as part of the implementation of a strategic program on corporate social responsibility and promoting the development of Ukrainian energy and industry the center of modern automation systems and electric drives of the ABB company
For our department, the main task has always been and remains the training of high-quality specialists. In the current conditions, it is not easy to achieve this. Therefore, cooperation with leading companies and enterprises is one of our priorities,
Students, as future engineers, need to “live” work with technologies, the knowledge of which is required in their future workplaces. Modern equipment is presented in the laboratory – automation tools and electric drives and their control systems, covering the entire existing line of industrial solutions of the ABB company, from the simplest drives ACS 55 and ACS 150 to vector drives ACS 550 and torque control systems based on electric drives of the ACS800 and ACS 850 series .
Students studying in the laboratory receive practical knowledge on the following topics:
- Construction and programming of slave speed control systems of DC motors based on ABB DCS800 converter
- Construction and programming of torque control systems of DC motors based on ABB DCS800 converter
- Construction and programming of two-zone DC motor control systems based on the ABB DCS800 converter
- Construction and programming of scalar frequency control systems of AC asynchronous electric motors based on ABB ACS150 and ACS350 converters
- Construction and programming of vector speed control systems of AC asynchronous electric motors based on the ABB ACS550 and ACS850 converter
- Construction and programming of direct torque control systems (DTC- Direct Torque Control) of AC asynchronous electric motors based on the ABB ACS800 converter
- Configuration and programming of analog and digital inputs of frequency converters for operation in systems of automatic control of technological processes using the example of ABB ACS55, ACS150, ACS350 and ACS550 converters.
- Installation and initial adjustment of industrial frequency converters for operation as part of automatic control systems.
The equipment listed above is used in the educational process for conducting laboratory work for students of the 3rd-4th year, scientific research of bachelors and masters, and improving the qualifications of employees of Ukrainian enterprises.
Thanks to the opportunity to work at it, students can familiarize themselves with the best technological solutions and acquire relevant operational skills, which, in turn, allows the department to train specialists with the qualifications that the domestic economy needs now.
There are only a few laboratories of this level in the world’s educational institutions: one of them is in the USA at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and in the CIS, such a center is unique, because it exists only in KPI.
