The scope of the course | The subject of study of the discipline “Elements and devices of electromechanical systems and electric drives” are the principles of operation, features of design and operation of electrical devices and elements of electromechanical systems. The course includes the study of basic electrical devices used in electromechanical systems, such as circuit breakers, fuses, contactors, relays, surge protection and lightning protection, contactor motor start circuits, protection relays. Students also study the principle of operation and features of modern sensors of electrical and non-electrical quantities. A separate issue is given to modern regulators and analog components used in electric drives. Students also get acquainted with the main principles of choosing electrical devices for the protection of electrical installations and sensors for the implementation of automatic control systems of electromechanical systems. Physical phenomena that are the basis of the operation of electrical devices and sensors of different types are also studied. |
Rationale | The study of electrical devices and elements of electromechanical systems is crucial for the design of such systems, and also allows the student to navigate freely in a wide variety of protection devices, switching, as well as sensors and regulators in the modern electrical market. |
Learning outcomes | – Know the principles of operation of electrical appliances,
– Know the principles of operation of sensors of electrical and non-electrical quantities and regulators – Select electrical devices and sensors for the specified requirements for electromechanical systems – Optimize and improve the protection of existing electrical circuits of electric drives using modern element base and electrical devices. |
Competencies and skills | The acquired knowledge will help the future engineer to freely choose devices and elements for integration into electromechanical systems, and also will be useful at designing of new electromechanical systems with use of the modern equipment. |
