The department has the highest level of accreditation (level IV) and trains multifunctional specialists to develop, research, design and operate electromechanical systems of automation and electric drive, which are widely used in almost all areas of human activity: industry, transport, household appliances, service sector, military and space equipment, etc.
In electromechanical automation systems and electric drive electric energy is converted into mechanical motion energy of technological machinery and processes, automatically operated by computer and microprocessor technology.
The wide and varied use of modern electromechanical systems of automation and electric drive determines the necessity of fundamental training of multifunctional specialists in the fields of:
- electric drive and mechatronics;
- automated control systems;
- industrial computer technologies and programming;
- automation of technical systems and robotic complexes;
- electric transport and electric cars.
The students also get the required knowledge of technological characteristics of general industrial machinery and installations, robots and flexible manufacturing systems, industrial engineering, economics, management etc.
The department has 10 teaching laboratories equipped with modern technical computer-based facilities. Among them are unique joint laboratories with international corporations:
- Training Center of ABB (Switzerland);
- Training Center of EATON (USA);
- Laboratory DTEK (Ukraine).
Due to the wide profile and high-quality training, graduates of the department have a large stable employment demand, including abroad. The department cooperates with universities in Germany, France, Poland, the UK, Italy and the US, which have student exchange programs, double degree diploma and scholarship.
The department is proud of its graduates, including the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Academician Boris Paton, hundreds of doctors and candidates of science, ministers, heads of industry associations, companies, factories and so on.
Many graduates work in leading universities and companies of Europe and the USA. Among them are Professor S. Lyashevskyy of Rochester University in New York, USA; Professor S. Bozhko – the main scientific manager of research program of Nottingham University, Great Britain; Dr. H. Markov – deputy of two convocations of the European Parliament; Viktor Ruban – employee of the National Aerospace Agency (NASA), USA; A. Tusita – the president of the world manufacturer of wind generators «Vestas», Denmark, and many others.
The department also prepares masters and doctorates of philosophy (PHD) in the specialty “Electromechanical systems of automation, electric drive and electromobility”.
Constant updating of laboratory base and introduction of new disciplines in the educational process appeal to students, who acquire high level knowledge: 131 out of 187 students have an average score above “4” (“good” and “very good” grades), 12 of them study perfectly (“A-level”).
Sincerely,
department faculty of AEMS-EP, NTU “KPI”
