Europe is developing a single standard for hydrogen transport
Standardization of Heavy-Duty hydrogen fuel systems will be carried out by 25 European organizations
The new European consortium StasHH (standard-Sized Heavy-duty Hydrogen), which includes organizations specializing in hydrogen, has announced the development of a single European standard for hydrogen fuel cells integrated into heavy machinery. Such as ships, trains, trucks, forklifts and buses, reports H2 View.
The StasHH consortium includes 25 organizations, eleven fuel module manufacturers, nine special equipment manufacturers, and five research institutes.
The total budget of the project is 15.2 million euros, with most of it – 7.5 million euros, StasHH will receive from the European Union, through the joint venture on fuel cells and hydrogen (FCH JU).
“The results of the project will not only encourage increased competition among suppliers of hydrogen fuel cells, but also simplify their integration into heavy-duty powertrains. This is an important step towards decarbonizing the transport sector,” said Bart Bibik, executive director of FCH JU.
According to him, the project will pay special attention to the truck sector: according to the European Strategy, 100 thousand heavy hydrogen trucks should appear in the EU countries by 2030.
