85th anniversary of corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Igor Vladimirovich Volkov
February 24, 2021 marks the 85th anniversary of the birth and 60th anniversary of the scientific activity of Doctor of technical sciences, professor, Honored Worker of Science and technology of Ukraine, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, chief researcher of the Department of transformation and stabilization of electromagnetic processes of the Institute of electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Igor Vladimirovich Volkov.
The staff of the Department of automation of electromechanical systems and electric drive sincerely congratulates the honorary graduate of 1958 on this significant event!
I. V. Volkov made a lot of efforts to develop domestic science and to train scientific personnel with higher qualifications. 34 candidate and 5 doctoral theses were defended under scientific supervision. Igor Vladimirovich has been working for many years in specialized academic councils for the defense of dissertations and acts as an official opponent in defense.
The research conducted by Volkov I. V. at the Institute of electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine led to the creation and wide practical application of a new class of electrotechnical devices – stabilized current systems used for power supply of advanced technology installations: plasma-arc, electron-ion, laser, electrohydraulic, magnetic pulse, etc., developed methods for their optimization and justified the method of structural synthesis of converters of this class.
Author of more than 210 author’s certificates and foreign patents, 9 monographs, more than 270 scientific articles. In 1975, I. V. Volkov was awarded the State prize of Ukraine in the field of Science and technology, in 1982 – the honorary title of honored scientist of Ukraine; in 1993 − the prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine named after G. F. Proskura. He was awarded three medals and a certificate of Honor from the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
