Elon Musk once again confirmed Tesla’s plans to release an electric minivan, and spoke about the possible features of the model.
In an interview with Joe Rogan on the podcast, he suggested that the roof area of the car will allow you to place large enough solar panels – and there will be enough energy from them for constant recharging.
Automakers have used the technology before, but only as an energy source for operation, for example, climate control. According to Musk, the roof panels can be enough to fill the power reserve of an electric car by about 50 kilometers per day. He also suggested that during parking, the panels could decompose, simultaneously forming a canopy on either side of the car and tripling their own area and effect.
Theoretically, under certain conditions of using an electric generator, it can do without any other energy sources. “Even if the apocalypse happens,” Musk joked.
UPD. This technology can only work with ultra-high efficiency of solar panels, while it is approximately up to 40% in the best modern panels. Not to mention the constant absence of clouds only in some regions of the planet. Most likely, this will be postponed for the next decade due to a disadvantage.
