The paper presents a novel method of approximation the magnetizing curve of self-excited induction generators. The main feature of this method is the presence of an additional non-linear region of approximated dependence that is designed to connect the two linear regions corresponding to unsaturated and saturated states of the magnetic system, without the gaps of the function which describes the dependence of magnetizing inductance on magnetizing current. The proposed method provides high accuracy of determination the characteristic of induction generator and allows reaching an adequate presentation of analytical dependencies between the parameters of standalone generating system. The analytical results are confirmed with experiments. The proposed method can be used for the design of new high-performance standalone generating systems with self-excited induction generators with improved generating properties.
